Tolerable daily intake for BPA maintained by EFSA

Following its risk-assessment of bisphenol A (BPA), EFSA has  announced today on its website that it intends to maintain the Tolerable Daily Intake for BPA at 0.05 mg/kg bw per day. BPA is widely used in the manufacture of polycarbonate plastics, including materials which come into contact with food, such as baby bottles and the lining of tin cans and has been linked to a number of possible health problems. EFSA says that there are areas of uncertainty that merit further consideration but that there are no safety concern.
