No vote on Commission Proposal for Community list of permitted health claims

No vote was held on the Commission's proposal for a first Community list of permitted health claims in the last meeting of Member State experts on the 12 July. The Commission presented its Proposal for a first list of permitted Article 13 health claims for vote, as prescribed under Article 13 of the Nutrition and Health Claims Regualtion. However, both the Member State experts and the Commission decided that it was too early to vote as there are stll too many outstanding issues that first need to be discussed and resolved. Many will welcome the outcome of last week's meeting, as it shows that the Member States are not rushing into any decision on the establishemnt of Article 13 health claims, the approach to which has been criticsed by some as potentially threatening to devaste the food and nutrition sector.
